The Sectional Games Lived Up to the Hype- HD Videos Coming Soon

During the first sectional game tonight, Lawrence Central and Indianapolis Tech went down to the wire.  The game was tied 59-59 with just over 5 seconds on the clock when LC inbounded from their baseline to Jeremy Hollowell.  He drove to the hole and scored a contested shot at the last second to win the game for LC.  Hollowell and Lyles both had huge games as predicted.  Hollowell unofficially had around 24 points and Lyles went for around 26 and at least 3 blocks.  I will have their full stat lines posted by tomorrow. Lawrence Central won 61-59 and will face Warren Central at 6 PM Friday at Tech.

The second game saw Cathedral knock off Lawrence North 64-58.  Colin Hartman, Jalen Coleman, and Jared Drew (St. Louis commit) all had solid performances for Cathedral.  Lawrence North was led by Purdue recruit Basil Smotherman, who I unofficially had for 15 points, 1 rebound, and 2 steals.  Eron Harris had another solid game to finish out his career at LN, but seemed to struggle with the length and athleticism of Cathedral.  Cathedral plays Roncalli at 7:30 PM Friday at Tech.

I am editing the videos tonight and will be uploading videos by tomorrow afternoon.  The HD videos will be of Jeremy Hollowell, Trey Lyles, Basil Smotherman, Jalen Coleman, Jared Drew, and maybe some lesser-known players such as, Tyler Corley, Sam Logwood, DaVeon "Petey" Balls (Northern Illinois commit), Mo Evans, David Hill,  and Richard Freeman.  I'm really trying to make an effort to provide an extensive view of HS recruits in the Indy area and don't want to leave guys out just because they're not high D1 prospects.

Indiana HS Basketball Postseason Tips Off Tonight

IHSAA Sectionals begin tonight, and I will be at Indianapolis Arsenal Tech to watch the Class 4A, Sectional 10 match ups.  The first game will feature Lawrence Central vs. Indianapolis Tech at 6 PM.  This game features a match-up of two highly touted IU commits: 6-foot-8 senior forward Jeremy Hollowell for LC, and 6-foot-9 sophomore forward Trey Lyles for Tech.  Expect big nights from both of these guys.

Hollowell has been on a fury after missing out on the McDonald's All American Game.  He has put himself in the discussion for Mr. Basketball along with Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell of Park Tudor, Gary Harris of Hamilton Southeastern, and Kellen Dunham of Pendleton Heights. For the season, Hollowell is averaging 24 points and 10 rebounds per game, which puts him as the third leading scorer in the state among 4A players, behind Dunham and Harris respectively.

Trey Lyles looks like he could suit up for a college team today, but he's just a sophomore in high school.  I have heard the comparisons to Tim Duncan, but I think Lyles' game is so unique it is hard to compare him to many big men out there.  He's 6-foot-9, extremely smooth, and a highly gifted athlete.  He can handle and pass the ball like a guard, hits outside jumpers with ease (averaging 41% from 3 point range), and has developed an improving inside game this year. He's averaging 22 points and 15 rebounds per game and was recently voted Indianapolis City Player of the Year by coaches within the city.

The winner of this game faces Warren Central at 6 PM Friday at Tech.

The second game on the schedule for tonight is Cathedral vs. Lawrence North.

Cathedral features IU commit 6-foot-6 junior forward Colin Hartman, as well as highly touted 6-foot-2 freshman guard Jalen Coleman. Coleman already holds an offer from IU and is seeing interest from Purdue, Michigan State, Notre Dame and many others. It should be quite entertaining to watch this young man over the coming years.  Hartman hasn't been having the kind of consistent productivity expected from an early commit to IU, but is still a solid player, with a high basketball IQ, and a good looking shot.  Hartman finished the regular season against Center Grove with 24 points and 10 rebounds and the previous game against Ben Davis he scored 10 points.

Lawrence North is led by 6-foot-3 senior guard Eron Harris a West Virginia recruit.  Harris was impressive when I saw him on 2/24/12 on his senior night. HD video from that game can be found a few posts down. I am looking forward to seeing him against some stiffer competition and will be sure to get some more video for Mountaineer fans.  Another player to watch on LN is 6-foot-5 junior forward Basil Smotherman.  He didn't have a great game when I watched him Friday, but I expect he'll pick up the intensity when the season is on the line.

The winner of this game faces Roncalli at 7:30 PM Friday at Tech.

Please check back in the coming days for HD videos from the sectional match-ups.

I liked the stripe-outs @ The Assembly Hall better this way, but we'll see how it looks with the easier block-out, I mean stripe-out design.

Welcome Post

Welcome to my new blog Hoosier Happenings.  I started this blog because I have a passion for Indiana HS basketball and thoroughly enjoy following the recruitment of players in the Hoosier state.  Eventually, I want this blog to serve as a resource for fans of Indiana HS basketball to find extensive hi-definiton videos of players in the state.  There will be no low-quality short videos shown here.  I will try to provide a more comprehensive view of recruits than you see on many recruiting sites.  The everyday fan should have realistic expectations of recruits and unfortunately the videos provided these days typically show only highlights.  Think of my videos as scouting videos not highlight reels.

Right now, this site is only a one-man one-camera operation, and because I live in Indianapolis most of the videos will be from players in the Indy area.  If you have a player you would like me to get a video of leave a comment here, and I will try my best to make it happen.  I will be at Indianapolis Tech for sectionals on Tuesday 2/28/2012 so expect new videos to be up by Friday of this week.

Additionally, I may divulge into other aspects of the Indy area such as sporting and social events, restaurants, local watering holes, etc. Thanks for visiting and please come back soon.
