Bennie Seltzer Named Samford's Next Head Coach

Indiana assistant coach Bennie Seltzer has accepted the head coaching position at Samford.   The university is located in Birmingham, AL, which is Seltzer's hometown.  He has spent the last 6 seasons under Tom Crean at Marquette (2 seasons) and Indiana (4 seasons).  Seltzer takes over for Jimmy Tillette, Samford's all-time winningest coach, with a 229-219 record over 15 seasons.  Tillette was fired by new Athletics Director Martin Newton on March 13th after an 11-19 season.  Seltzer is scheduled to be introduced during a press conference Thursday morning.  He was the only assistant coach on the IU staff with no D1 head coaching experience.

Does this open the door for Calbert Cheaney to replace Seltzer on the IU staff?  We will have to wait and see, but I think many Hoosier fans would agree that it would be an excellent move by Crean to add the all-time leading scorer in B1G history to the staff.
